Article Marketing: The "David Letterman", A Beginner's Best Friend PDF Print E-mail
by AnthonyJamesGoolsby

Regardless of what you've heard or believe, article marketing is a cinch. You can write an article to promote your business. Distributing articles through a directory is a great way to promote yourself no matter what your product or service. And I promise there is one style of article you can write, even if you don't consider yourself a writer and have never written before.

The David Letterman, Or A Top-Ten List Article

Starting with a topic related to your product or service, begin to do keyword research for words associated with your business. Keywords are single words, or complete phrases, that someone types into Google or other search engine, that allows them to find information. And the information you want them coming across is your article. Don't worry. Keyword research is not difficult as some people make it sound. Simply put yourself in your customers shoes and imagine what words you would be typing in to find an answer to your problem.

Look through your article topic, and pick out anything you can use to create a list. Then simply construct an article around that list. It doesn't have to be that long, and you can be as creative as you like. Try something like the "Top Ten Ways to (eat an elephant)", or "3 Great Questions To Ask (a blind poker player), or "7 Simple Techniques For (fat guys to get the ladies)". Some other proven ones are "10 Great Ideas For...," "Top Ten Tips for...," "Ten Secrets About...," "3 Steps To...," and on and on. You get the idea.

Now, take the following outline, and follow along step-by-step. Let's use the subject of free website traffic, for example. We can even use the topic as our keyword: "article marketing" and "free website traffic."

1. Write your title using the keyword. This allows searchers to find your article easily. Heres an example: "Article Marketing: 7 Ways To Get Free Website Traffic."

2. Next, you simply write a summary paragraph, or at least a description sentence, telling the reader all the benefits they'll get for taking the time to read. For example: "How many different ways are you using to get free traffic to your business? You'll learn seven quick and easy article marketing tips here."

3. Using your keyword again in the first paragraph, you have to sell your article to the reader. Make it exciting if you can, but don't cross the line into hype. Try something like this: "Free website traffic with article marketing is simply a mouse click away if you know where to look."

4. Okay, here comes the David Letterman part. Create your numbered list. Write a few sentences that explain each bullet point. Like this: "1. Write your article. This is one of the best ways to get free website traffic. Submit your articles to the free directories. Readers will find your website through the link at the end of your article. 2. Swap links with popular, high-traffic sites." And so on.

You should end each article with a short, summary paragraph that includes your keyword again, if possible. For example: "Obviously some ways for getting free website traffic through article marketing are easier than others, and you should try them all. Then answer the question of which works best for your website..." It is extremely important to include a summary. Like your English teacher taught you: Tell them what youre going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you just told them. You can kill an otherwise effective article by forgetting the summary.

6. Now you want to include a short resource box or About-the-Author section. Introduce yourself using only one sentence, then talk about the benefits the reader will get by visiting your website. Include a hyperlink to your site. Try to limit it to one, but certainly no more than two. Here's an example: "For more information on article marketing and 127 other ways to get free website traffic, visit..." The resource box is your most important part of the article. It's what connects the reader back to you, which is the reason you wrote the article in the first place, right?

So, clearly you can write a simple "Letterman" article and use it to promote your business. As you can see, publishing articles through article directories is one of the best ways to promote your product or service. Just follow the steps, and youll be getting traffic in no time.
